Random Japanese verbs and sentences
こんにちは！These are just sentences I wrote to practice and refresh what I learned. Since I haven’t kept good study habits, there’s probably a bunch of mistakes, so if you see some, please tell me so I can fix them!
会う（あう） - to meet
- 昨日学校で友達に会いました。（きのうがっこうでともだちにあいました。）Yesterday I met my friend at school
開く （あく）- to be open
- コンビニは開いていますか。（コンビニはあいていますか。）Is the convenience store open?
開ける（あける） - to open something
- 戸を開けてください。（とをあけてください。）Please open the door
上げる（あげる） - to raise
- 手を上げてください。（てをあげてください。）Please raise your hand
遊ぶ（あそぶ） - to play/enjoy oneself
- 猫と遊ぶのが楽しいんです。（ねことあそぶのがたのしいんです。）Playing with cats is fun
浴びる （あびる）- to bathe/shower
- シャワーを浴びようとします。（シャワーをあびようとします。）I’m about to shower
洗う （あらう）- to wash
- お皿を洗うのが嫌いです。（おさらをあらうのがきらいです。）I don’t like washing the dishes
ある - to exist (inanimate)
- カナダに行ったことがありますか。（カナダにいったことがありますか。）Have you been to Canada? (Does the fact of having been to Canada exist?)
歩く（あるく） - to walk
- お天気が良ければ学校に歩きます。（おてんきがよければがっこうにあるきます。）If the weather is good, I walk to school
言う（いう） - to say
- 私の友達は「宿題をしている。」と言いました。（わたしのともだちは「しゅくだいをしている。」といいました。）My friend said “I’m doing homework”
行く（いく） - to go
- 喫茶店に行きましょう！（きっさてんにいきましょう！）Let’s go to the cafe!
いる - to exist (animate)
- 箱に猫が二匹います。（はこにねこがにひきいます。）There are two cats in the box
いる - to be needed
- 鉛筆がいります。（えんぴつがいります。）I need a pencil
入れる （いれる）- to put something in
- カメラはカバンに入れた。（カメラはカバンにいれた。）I put the camera in the bag
歌う（うたう） - to sing
- 歌うのができません。（うたうのができません。）I can’t sing
生まれる（うまれる） - to be born
- 昨日赤ちゃんが生まれました。（きのうあかちゃんがうまれました。）The baby was born yesterday
売る （うる）- to sell
- 切符がたくさん売ってありました。（きっぷがたくさんうってありました。）Many tickets were sold
起きる（おきる） - to wake up
- 5時半に起きて、朝ご飯を食べます。（ごじはんにおきて、あさごはんをたべます。）I wake up at 5:30, then eat breakfast
置く （おく）- to put something
- 机の上にノートを起きました。（つくえのうえにノートをおきました。）I put the notebook on the desk
教える （おしえる）- to teach
- 私の先生はよく教えます。（わたしのせんせいはよくおしえます。）My teacher teaches well
押す （おす）- to push
- 大きくて赤いボタンを押さないでください。（おおきくてあかいボタンをおさないでください。）Don’t press the big red button
覚える（おぼえる） - to memorize
- 漢字を覚えるのが難しいんです。（かんじをおぼえるのがむずかしいんです。）Memorizing kanji is hard
泳ぐ （およぐ）- to swim
- 湖で泳いでことがありません。（みずうみでおよいでことがいりません。）I haven’t swum in a lake
降りる（おりる） - to descend
- 山を遅く降りました。（やまをおそくおりました。）I descended the mountain slowly
買う（かう） - to buy
- 教科書を買わなくてはいけません。（きょうかしょをからなくてはいけません。）I need to buy a textbook
返す（かえす） - to return something
- 友達にこの鉛筆を返しました。（ともだちにこのえんぴつをかえしました。）I returned this pencil to my friend
帰る （かえる）- to return/go back
- 今帰らなくてはいけません。（いまかえらなくてはいけません。）I need to go back now
かかる - to take time
- ここから空港までは一時間かかります。（ここからくうこうまではいちじかんかかります。）From here to the airport takes one hour
書く（かく） - to write
- ここでお名前を書いてください。（ここでおなまえをかいてください。）Please write your name here
かける - to hang
- 私の部屋に絵はかけてあります。（わたしのへやにえはかけてあります。）A picture is hung in my room
貸す（かす） - to lend
- 妹にお金を貸しました。（いもうとにおかねをかしました。）I lent my little sister money
